SPOKANE, Wash.- Police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit and killed by a pickup truck in the intersection of Sprague and Division at around 6:40 Monday evening.
The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital with critical injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. Police are not releasing his identity until next of kin can be notified.
Police say after the collision the driver of the pickup initially ran from the scene, but then later returned.
The collision is still under investigation. Police say the driver of the pickup may have been under the influence of alcohol. The pickup's driver was arrested and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter.
The intersection was closed for nearly four hours while the accident reconstruction team investigated the collision.
So sad...It's about time that people who hurt others with a vehicle, while under the influence, are held accountable. The law needs to reflect that in the sentencing and penalty phase also. The penalties are too lenient. In my world a LONG incarceration would help to influence those who drink and drive to think harder before getting behind the wheel when intoxicated. I think that vehicular manslaughter is no different than using a firearm to commit murder.
Sparta the Mean Kitty
The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.
(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).
