Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).

Former KREM 2 News Anchor Loses Husband to Rare Flesh Eating Bacteria
by KREM.com
Our thoughts and prayers are with former KREM 2 News anchor Dawn Picken and her family.
Dawn's husband, Sean Stanelun, a former KREM 2 photojournalist, passed away Friday night after battling complications from a rare flesh eating bacteria.
Sean fell ill in September. He fought hard, telling KREM 2 News in November that his wife and children gave him strength as he moved from medical facility to medical facility. Dawn never left his side.
Sean leaves behind two children, Fiona and Finely. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dawn and her children. Sean will be deeply missed.
A public memorial to honor Sean is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral, located at 127 E. 12th Ave. in Spokane.

I do remember Dawn Picken, and my sympathies go out to the family for their loss.  They both served Spokane so well.

CAPITAL CULTURE: Obama mother-in-law likes WH life.
By DARLENE SUPERVILLE, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's mother-in-law lived her entire life in Chicago, so it was only natural that her move to the White House came with some resistance. Try it for three months, her son-in-law says the family suggested.
A year later, it seems Marian Robinson is here to stay.
She spends a lot of time looking after granddaughters Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, but has been carving out a new life for herself, too. In the words of the president, she's become "quite the lady about town."  Read More: Source/Yahoo.com  First Grandmother

Happiest States: Hawaii Moves into First Place
by Jeanna Bryner LiveScience Managing Editor
If you needed an extra twist of the arm to set off on a Hawaii vacation, here it is: The big-wave state was the happiest place to live in 2009, according to a newly released national survey.
Topping the well-being list among all 50 states, Hawaii pulled ahead of the 2008 leader Utah. But Utah and its neighbors still have plenty to smile about. Nine of the top 10 well-being states reside in the Midwest and the West. The south didn't fare so well, taking seven of the 11 lowest well-being spots on the list.Hawaii

Returning Hero: Plushenko Wins Short Program
VANCOUVER (AP) -- Game on, guys
Reigning Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko posted a monster 90.85 points early in the men's short program Tuesday night, daring the competition to beat it. World champion Evan Lysacek and Japan's Daisuke Takahashi came pretty darn close, setting up the most riveting men's final since the "Battle of the Brians" in 1988 _ the last time the Olympics were in Canada.
Lysacek is just .55 points behind Plushenko with Takahashi another .05 back going into Thursday night's free skate. Those margins are so small, the three may as well be tied. Read More: Source/NBC News  Evan Lysacek

USO Care Packages

Operation USO Care Package enables the public to express their support of our men and women in uniform. Sponsoring a care package and including a personal message provides individuals with a way to touch the lives of our deployed troops around the world. For every $25 donation you make, the USO will send a care package with both needed and requested items valued at approximately $75 to a deployed service member.
Please note: Each USO Care Package is $25. If you select other below, please enter your donation amount in $25.  Donate to USO CarePackage
Personally, I think this is a great idea.  I know those guys serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan sure could use some needed support like this.  I know what it's like to receive care packages from home when you are on a very long deployment.  I also know that in this economy, it's hard to part with the money, but maybe, on your birthday, you could give a gift instead of getting one.  Cool idea, huh?

Boy, they had these, even in Grandma's time...given the world population today, I don't think they were used much.
