Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).

Still Learning

I have to apologize, lately I've been kind of skimpy on my observations about the stories I post. Like I mentioned in the beginning, it's taking me awhile to learn about this blog This being the first week, I suppose I have learned quite a bit, but am still learning more. Please bear with me during the 2nd week as I fine tune the posts and try to make it as interesting as I want it.

We Are the World II

LOS ANGELES - The revamped "We Are the World" made its world premiere Friday during NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, and a simultaneous worldwide screening of the full, seven-minute version of the music video is planned for Saturday.  Read more and watch the video:: Source/Huffington Post
We Are the World
I remember in 1985, when the first video came out. It was very emotional for me, knowing how much I had, and how much others were suffering. It helped me to start giving what I could when I could. This video evokes the same emotion, and again, makes me very thankful that I have a warm place to sleep, and food to eat. Thinking of those people in Haiti, especially the children, who have lost everything, sometimes even the loss of loved ones, makes me realize how fortunate I am.

University of Alabama Shooting:

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - A biology professor at the University of Alabama's Huntsville campus was charged with murder late Friday in the shooting deaths of three fellow biology professors at the campus. Read more: Source/Huffington Post University of Alabama
How sad this is. Ever since 1966, when that loon perched himself at the University of Texas tower, and shot all those people, the crazies in the world think that this is the thing to do. What is it with people that use guns to express their anger? That for me, is the biggest reason that guns should be better regulated. If you're NOT a hunter, what do you need a gun for? Self defense, some would say, and I guess that in this day and age it's a pretty good argument. But I for one, long for the day when we as a civilized society, don't need such instruments to settle disputes. The world sure would be a different place if I were in charge....

Joke of the Day

Not Necessarily a joke, but my friend Gary sent me these today. Usually I just forward them to my other friends, but I've decided to post some of them here instead. He sent quite a few of them, but I'll only post one or two a day. Here's the first one...Remember they are from the 1930's.

What a tragedy...Such a young life to be lost. He was doing what he loved and that is really what mattered. The opening ceremonies will be dedicated to Nodar, and I wish deepest sympathies for his family and friends.

Pimp Mom

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A Cedar Rapids woman was accused of arranging her daughter's effort at prostitution. Mary J. Doolin was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Sept. 29 incident in Coralville. Police said Doolin sent her daughter to meet an undercover officer who had contacted her during a prostitution investigation. According to police, Doolin's daughter, 37-year-old Debra Voshell, was later charged with pandering.
Police said Doolin admitted to running a prostitution ring for a number of years and has prior convictions for pimping and prostitution.
Doolin was being held Thursday in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Another argument in favor of banning some people from procreating. I would sentence this woman to spend the rest of her life in prison.  (Ugly too ain't she?),

Airborne Laser Shoots Down Missile in Flight:

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency announced that its high-powered airborne laser successfully shot down a ballistic missile during a recent test. Read more: Source/Huffington PostAirborne Laser Test
Wow...About time we used our technology to guard the safety of this nation. What else does do we have that the government is developing? Guess we'll have to just wait and see. I anticipate that if we can do that with this weapon...we should be able to use it in conjunction with spy satellites, and destroy some of those terrorists in those far away lands. Just think...we wouldn't have to send troops...just push a button.

In Local News:

SPOKANE -- Spokane County Sheriff's deputies and Spokane Police report two missing Level III sex offenders in the region. Missing are Justin Stevens, 30, and James Broady Artis III, 43.

You should be aware of these two. Just a couple of the many sex offenders dumped in Spokane County. I truly wish there was somewhere else the state could dump them,....(like maybe 100 miles off the coast of Seattle).

k.d. lang sings for Olympic Opening Ceremonies

At the opening ceremonies last night for the 21st Winter Olympics , k.d. lang sang Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelulia". With the background of thousands of candles, it was a very moving performance. For those of you that didn't see it, you missed something special. I still am of the firm belief that this woman, a Canadian by birth, has one of the best vocal voices in the world. Below is the video of the song sung in Winnepeg in for the Juno Awards in 2005. If I can get ahold of a video of the performance at the Opening ceremony, I will post it. Isn't the song beautiful? Just listen to the words for the message it sends.

Clark Howard

Clark talks about Gas prices, something that affects all of us who drive. Told you, he's very very smart.

Getting Rid of Pet Allergens

Getting Rid of Pet Allergens by Louis Neipris, M.D. Staff Writer, MyOptumHealth
Almost seven in 10 American homes have one or more pets. But 10 million of these pet owners are allergic to their beloved cat or dog. Are you one of them?
Many pet owners put up with allergies or even asthma attacks triggered by their beloved pets. Pets shed dander, or skin flakes. When dander becomes airborne, it can trigger an allergic reaction or asthma attack in some people. But there are things you can do to help manage allergies and asthma triggered by pets.
Remove the pet or control the allergens
Asthma is potentially life-threatening, and sometimes you have to give up your pet to protect your health. Finding a new home for your pet can be tough, but it is the best way of removing pet allergens from the home if you have asthma attacks or severe allergic reactions to your pet.
But many people with less severe allergies prefer to keep their pet and try to get rid of pet allergens in other ways. This may include thorough cleanings or the use of an air filter. There is conflicting evidence about whether you can reduce the amount of pet allergen in the home, still keep your pet and help control asthma and allergic reactions. Read More: Source/KHQ Pets

Commercial from Argentina

This is a commercial for a bank in Argentina...Sometimes I find it hard to understand why acceptance of those different, comes out of a Third World country, where Catholocism rules. Yet here in the United States, one of the richest, progressive First World Countries, where we pride ourselves on tolerance, are so intolerant. Maybe there's a lesson to be learned here. Why can't we just live and let live? Source/WickedGayBlog

Valentines Day

And just a reminder...Sunday is Valentines's day. Do you have a special valentine? Do something nice, breakfast, flowers, lunch, or my favorite...chocolate. Remember, though some think it's a bogus holiday, it is a way of remembering that special someone.
