Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).

Doggie Blood Bank

Blood Bank Helps Four Legged Patients
By Val Willingham
(CNN) -- Diablo is not your typical blood donor. Fuzzy and four legged, the golden retriever is eager to jump up on a table and offer a half-unit or more of blood for a few goodies.
His owner, Jessica Butts, a technician at the Spring Mills Veterinary Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia, says her pet is helping other dogs.
"We see a lot of injured animals come into the clinic, especially dogs hit by cars," she explains. "Dogs, when they are hit, can lose a lot of blood internally."
When it comes to pets, veterinarians say few people ever think about blood donation. But the there is a need. Although there are no exact numbers, animal blood transfusions are crucial because dogs and cats, like their owners, suffer from injuries, diseases and anemia. Read More/Source CNN  Dog Blood Bank
What a great concept. I worked for a decade for a blood bank for humans, and know the importance of blood donations. I suppose it's just as important for this service to be available for our pets.

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- The H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, may have killed as many as 17,000 Americans, according to new estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.

The Flu season is not over, and you should still take precautions so as not to catch this flu. Though I don't think it has been as bad as some feared, who knows what the next wave will bring. Prudence is important. Remember to wash your hands frequently.

Drinking, Racing Involved in Crash that Killed Teen.
By Krem.com
SPOKANE -- Investigators are still trying to piece together a deadly weekend wreck that killed a 19 year old. Jacoby Bryant died early Sunday morning in a two car crash at 54th and Hatch on Spokane's South Hill. Deputies say speed and alcohol played a role.
Such a trajedy. A life wasted. Unfortunately most teens view themselves as invincible. Please stress to the teens you know that driving a moving vehicle is something that they should do very carefully, and never under the influence of alchohol or drugs.

Rescue crews in Washington state will try again Tuesday to get to a hiker who fell 1,500 feet into the crater of Mount St. Helens volcano.
The 52-year-old hiker was with another hiker Monday afternoon at the summit, near the edge of the crater, when the accident occurred, according to Dave Cox, public information officer with the Skamania County, Washington, Sheriff's Department.  Read More: Source/CNN  Washington Hiker
Now who in their right mind is going to go climbing on the slopes of an active volcano? What is wrong with people. Geez...look at a picture for Pete's sake.

And in Idaho...
ID lawmaker wants to make snagging roadkill legal.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho lawmaker wants to make it legal to snatch up roadkill, saying letting a dead animal rot on the highway doesn't make sense if someone can make a few hundred dollars off it.
Rep. Dick Harwood told the House Resources and Conservation Committee Monday people with hunting or trapping licenses should be allowed to harvest the pelts of animals like badgers, bobcats, red foxes, bears and mountain lions. Read more/Source KREM  Roadkill
And how do they prove that the hide they're selling was roadkill...I think that this opens an avenue for poachers to sell their wares.

(I was going to post a real road kill photo, but they were too gross...lol)

What could happen to you...

"Officer, You've Got the Wrong Person."
By Stephanie Chen CNN
CNN) -- Three police cars pulled into Christina FourHorn's front yard one afternoon just before she was supposed to pick up her daughter at school. The officers had a warrant for her arrest.
"What do you mean robbery?" FourHorn remembers asking the officers. Her only brushes with the law had been a few speeding tickets.
She was locked up in a Colorado jail. They took her clothes and other belongings and handed her an oversize black-and-white striped uniform. She protested for five days, telling jailers the arrest was a mistake. Finally, her husband borrowed enough money to bail her out.
"They wouldn't tell me the details," she said
Later, it became clear that FourHorn was right, that Denver police had arrested the wrong woman. Police were searching for Christin Fourhorn, who lived in Oklahoma. Read More/Source CNN  Mistaken Identity arrest
Wow...this could happen to any of us. Hopefully she sues and wins.

Never Viewed Video

The Sixth Floor Museum has released never before seen footage of the moments leading up to the JFK assassination. The video shows John F Kennedy's arrival at Love Field in Dallas on November 22, 1963. There is no sound.
I don't know if anyone remembers this day...you might not have even been alive. I was 7 years old and was in 2nd grade. I was living in Great Falls, Montana and remember that day as a cold, sunny day. If you were alive. what do you remember of that day?

WHISTLER, British Columbia (SI.com) -- Bode Miller, the U.S.' best hope for Olympic medals in Alpine skiing, held on to capture bronze on Monday in the men's downhill. But it was Switzerland's surprising gold-medal winner Didier Défago who stole the show.
