Well, I said I wasn't going to post on weekends, but I found this letter from an Animal Shelter Manager that I thought I would Post in it's entirety. I personally feel it's important for every potential pet owner to read this before purchasing or breeding a pet. Please feel free to share this with everyone that you can. People need to be informed.
Letter from a Shelter Manager
I think our society needs a huge "Wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all...a view from the inside if you will.
First off, all of you breeders/sellers should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for just one day. Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would change your mind about breeding and selling to people you don't even know.
That puppy you just sold will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore. So how would you feel if you knew that there's about a 90% chance that dog will never walk out of the shelter it is going to be dumped at? Purebred or not! About 50% of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or "strays", that come into my shelter are purebred dogs
The most common excuses I hear are; "We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat)." Really? Where are you moving too that doesn't allow pets? Or they say "The dog got bigger than we thought it would". How big did you think a German Shepherd would get? "We don't have time for her". Really? I work a 10-12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs! "She's tearing up our yard". How about making her a part of your family? They always tell me "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her we know she'll get adopted, she's a good dog".
Odds are your pet won't get adopted & how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies. Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose. If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door.
Those dogs just don't get adopted. It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are.
If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long . Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment. If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because shelters just don't have the funds to pay for even a $100 treatment.
Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being "put-down".
First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk happy, wagging their tails. Until they get to "The Room", every one of them freaks out and puts on the brakes when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them. Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs depending on the size and how freaked out they are. Then a euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process. They will find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the "pink stuff". Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams. They all don't just "go to sleep", sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves.
When it all ends, your pets corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage. What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right?
I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head I deal with everyday on the way home from work.
I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and realize that the lives you are affecting go much farther than the pets you dump at a shelter.
Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you can stop it. I do my best to save every life I can but rescues are always full, and there are more animals coming in everyday than there are homes
My point to all of this DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE!
Hate me if you want to. The truth hurts and reality is what it is. I just hope I maybe changed one persons mind about breeding their dog, taking their loving pet to a shelter, or buying a dog. I hope that someone will walk into my shelter and say "I saw this and it made me want to adopt". THAT WOULD MAKE IT WORTH IT
For those people that regard the lives of domesticated animals as expendible, or not worthwhile, let me just say this. One day, you will be held accountable to the Creator of life, as to why you were so uncaring. Do you really think there's a place in heaven for someone who cannot even care for the innocents of this planet? Think about that.

It's Friday!!
Well..it's Friday again. Spring is almost here. My birthday is Sunday, and I made a vow on New Years that I was going to quit smoking on my birthday, (a habit I've had since I was 18). I've tried before, but somehow this time feels different. I know I have the quite a bit more resolve to see this through, and I know I will ultimately succeed. So, the next time that you hear from me, I will be a non-smoker.
Everyone, have a nice weekend. I decided not to post on weekends, unless some spectacular or newsworthy event occurs, and I just have to express an opinion about it.
Drive Safe, play safe, do something fun with your family, and maybe, perform a random act of kindness for someone less fortunate than you. See you Monday.

THE STUTTERING KITTEN
From the Mouth of a Child
A teacher is explaining biology to her 3rd grade students. She says, "Human beings are the only animals that stutter."
A little girl raises her hand, saying, "I had a kitty-cat who stuttered."
The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident.
"Well,'' she began, "I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!"
The teacher exclaimed, "That must've been scary."
The little girl said, "It sure was. My kitty raised her back, went 'Sssss, Sssss, Sssss' and before she could say 'Shit,' the Rottweiler ate her!"
The teacher had to leave the room!

THE AISLE SEAT
Two Radical Arab Terrorists boarded a flight out of London . One took a window seat and the other sat next to him in the middle seat... Just before takeoff, a U.S. Marine sat down in the aisle seat. After takeoff, the Marine kicked his shoes off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, 'I need to get up and get a coke.' 'Don't get up,' said the Marine, 'I'm in the aisle seat, 'I'll get it for you.'
As soon as he left, one of the Arabs picked up the Marine's shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned with the coke, the other Arab said, 'That looks good, I'd really like one, too.' Again, the Marine obligingly went to fetch it. While he was gone the other Arab picked up the Marines other shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight.
As the plane was landing, the Marine slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened. He leaned over and asked his Arab neighbors... 'Why does it have to be this way?' 'How long must this go on? This fighting between our nations? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in shoes and pissing in cokes?'

Another School Shooting
Adult Shoots 2 Students At Middle School in Littleton Colorado
LITTLETON, Colo. (AP)- A teacher tackled a man armed with a high-powered rifle just after two teenage students were shot Tuesday at a suburban Denver middle school that's just miles from Columbine High School, the site of one of the nation's deadliest school shootings, authorities said.
One male and one female were shot at about 3:30 p.m. outside Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Jefferson County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said. Both students were taken to a nearby hospital and were expected to survive.
Student Steven Seagraves said he was about 10 feet away when an adult approached students and asked them: "Do you guys go to this school?"
When the students said they did, he shot them, Seagraves said.
Seventh-grade math teacher David Benke, a 6-foot-5 inch former college basketball player who oversees the school's track team, tackled the suspect as he was trying to reload his weapon.
Another Crazie with a gun...What's to be done with people that do these kinds of things. Maybe we should go back to the days when crazies could be locked up indefinitely. Screw their rights. What about everybody elses? Don't we have to right to be protected from these people?

California Man Hit By Train Twice in 2 Weeks
IRVINE, Calif. — A man who lost his hand after being dragged by a commuter train two weeks ago in Southern California has been hit by a train again.
Police say the man claimed he fell from the platform onto the tracks at the Irvine station and was hit by a northbound train Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Mike Meyers says the man gave the same explanation when he was hit by a Metrolink train at about the same time two weeks ago in Laguna Nigel and dragged 87 feet. His left hand was severed at the wrist.
The sheriff's department investigated the first incident as an accident.
Police say the man was taken to a hospital Tuesday with non-life-threatening injuries and will receive a mental health evaluation.
Geez...what's it gonna take for this man to stay away from trains? Seems to me he ought to take a different form of transportation. Maybe Someone's trying to tell him something.

Evil Incarnate:
FILE - This file photo released Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 by the Delaware State Police shows Dr. Earl Bradley. A Delaware grand jury returned a sweeping indictment Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 against the pediatrician accused of serial molestation in what could be one of the worst child sex abuse cases in the nation's history. The 160-page indictment returned by a Sussex County grand jury charges Bradley of Lewes, Del. with 471 counts of sexual crimes against 103 children.
What a scumbag...It's guys like this that out to be strung up in front of a courthouse. They serve no purpose on the earth. When are they going to change the laws of the land to award death penalty verdicts for abusers of children? Normally I'm in favor of rehabilitation, but these people can't be fixed. They WILL offend again, so just get rid of them now.

Jobs Bill VOTE: GOP Filibuster Fails as Scott Brown and Others Break With Party
Scott Brown was in and out of the Senate chamber and had voted against his party before most of his colleagues had even arrived.
"It's a small step, but it's still a step," Brown told reporters after casting a procedural vote in favor of the Democratic jobs bill, bucking his party leaders and the strategy of opposition they have carried out since President Obama took office. Read More: Source/Huffington Post GOP
I post this because it's a big step in some Republicans coming to their senses and realizing that President Obama's Job Bill is to help Americans. The Republicans' strategy of obstructing everything that the Democrats propose is not only doomed, but spells doom for the US economy if they succeed. Kudos to the smart Republicans.

Inmates Come to Animal Shelter's Rescue
by Kris O'Donnell/Zootoo Pet News
ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- With a sour economy and a shrinking budget, one Central Florida county has come up with a novel way to keep its animal shelter open and running smoothly. That's because Osceola County has looked to its jail for help.
"Without them, it would almost be impossible," Assistant Veterinary Technician Vickie Dryer said. "They have assisted us in so many areas we couldn't do alone."
The inmates work all day at Osceola County Animal Control, doing everything from cleaning cages to refilling water bowls. Read More: Source KHQ Pets Inmates
So glad to see this... I really wished more jail sentences could result in something this helpful. Now this is rehabilitation.

Weird Things Written on Resumes
by Kate Lorenz
(CareerBuilder.com) -- When Sara Sutton Fell, CEO of FlexJobs.com, was hiring for her entry-level job site, one particular résumé stood out from all the others.
The reason? The applicant claimed to be a "Pig Wrestling Champion" and included details like weight of the pig, number of competitors and months of training.
"[The candidate] definitely set himself apart from other candidates; not so sure it was in the way he was hoping though," Fell said. "If the gentleman had been applying for a job with a company that's involved with county or state fairs, or with a health organization currently helping to prevent the spread of Swine Flu, then his pig wrestling championship would be acceptable (and in the latter application, pretty darn funny). Otherwise, he should chalk it off as not acceptable." Read More: Source/ CNN Resumes

Northwest: Sexual Abuse Scandal
Religion Teacher Accused of Sex With Student
AUBURN, Wash. (AP) - Auburn police say a religion teacher at a private Christian-based high school has been arrested for investigation of having sex with a female teenage student.
Police Sgt. David Colglazier says 49-year-old Scott Spies was arrested last week and booked into jail for investigation of molestation, indecent liberties and sex with a minor. Officials at the Auburn Adventist Academy say Spies has since been fired.
Colglazier says the relationship allegedly started in February 2009, when the girl was 15 years old, and became sexual last fall. School principal Marvin Mitchell says he spoke with Spies and that he was remorseful.
Wow...I don't want to be a judge here, but it is so sad to see this. I graduated from an Adventist Academy and know how high they hold themselves to be. This just shows that child abuse is not limited to the Catholic Institution, or to men and boys.

Ellen DeGeneres gives "Idol" Miss a Break
by Alan Duke CNN
Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Family tragedy, bad timing and tough competition kept Angela Martin from moving past "American Idol's" Hollywood Week in three separate seasons.
The 28-year-old mother of a special needs child learned Friday that, despite not making the top 24 again, two "Idol" judges will help get her singing career cranked up.
Ellen DeGeneres, who is in her first season as a judge, invited Martin onto her talk show to discuss her struggles and to sing. And, DeGeneres said, fellow judge Kara DioGuardi will pen a song for her. Read More: Source/CNN Ellen
And this is why I love Ellen DeGeneres. She truly understands the human condition, and strives always to help others using her fame and clout. I wish others in her position would do more to help those less fortunate than them. Kudos to you Ellen.

Australian study uses Cat Food in War on Cane Toad
by Owen Pye Associated Press
SYDNEY – Forget cricket bats, golf clubs and carbon dioxide. Australia has found a new weapon in its war on the dreaded cane toad: cat food.
Researchers with the University of Sydney found that a few tablespoons of cat food left next to ponds in the Northern Territory attracts fierce Australian meat ants, which then attack baby cane toads as they emerge from the water. The results of the study were published in the British Ecological Society's Journal of Applied Ecology this week. Read More: Source/Yahoo.com Cane Toads
Finally, a solution that uses nature instead of baseball bats to combat a man made scurge. These toads were to solve a problem in the 1930's with beetles. As usual, it was a remedy that wasn't too thought out, which left a problem of an overabundance of these poisonous toads. Hope it works.

What's This? Man Whore???
Change a Man-whore? Don't Bet On It
by Audrey Irvine
CNN) -- Two television shows, "The Bachelor" and "For the Love of Ray J," have one thing in common: They both contribute to the glamorizing of the man-whore.
To understand where I'm going with this, let's first define man-whore.
According to Urban Dictionary.com, a man-whore is "someone who repeatedly sleeps with random women indiscriminately without regard to any consequences. Man-whores are mainly found at local pubs, bars, parties, although they can be found anywhere throughout the world."
Man-whores used to be easy to spot, like that old man hanging out in the nightclub, trying to pick up young ladies.
But the new, improved man-whore wants you to believe he wants to be committed but just hasn't found the right woman to commit to -- yet. Read More: Source/CNN Man Whore

Joke of the Day
I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over. Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, "So, what was wrong?" He replied, "It was an ID ten T error." I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, "an, ID ten T error? What's that? In Case I need to fix it again" Eric grinned..."Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?"
"No," I replied.
"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."
So I wrote down:
ID10T
I used to like Eric, the little bastard.
"No," I replied.

It's FRIDAY!!
Well today is Friday...I had a good week. I got my little baby boy kittie Wednesday, though I still haven't named him. Got any suggestions? Am leaning towards "Putzie"..lol .
I'm anticipating a quiet weekend, and hope all of you have a nice weekend too. Drive safe, Play safe, and always beware of the Crazies that walk among us. Perform a random act of kindness for someone, and tell your children that you love them. See you Monday.
This my new baby..all black. Very small, very active and very dependent. He follows me everywhere and is quite the talker.

Suicidal Man Crashes Plane
(CNN) -- The remains of two people have been found in an Austin, Texas, building where a man crashed a small plane, authorities said.
The identities of the two dead people have not been confirmed, the Austin Fire Department said in a statement. Two other people who were injured in the incident were taken to a hospital, and 11 others were treated for minor injuries, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said.
Authorities said Andrew Joseph Stack III, 53, an Austin resident with an apparent grudge against the Internal Revenue Service, set his house on fire Thursday and then crashed a Piper Cherokee PA-28 into the building, which houses an IRS office with nearly 200 employees, federal officials said. Evidently this guy was very troubled. I can understand the frustration one might feel when trying to negotiate with a bureaucratic government intstitution like the IRS, but to cause pain, suffering, and death to innocent people, is just beyond me. What is WRONG with people (one of my favorite sayings). Promise that if you get overwhelmed, and can't handle life, that you seek professional help BEFORE you hurt others, including yourself, (though that's preferrable in my book, than hurting others).

Girl's Arrested For Doodling Raises Concerns About Zero Tolerance
By Stephanie Chen, CNN
CNN) -- There was no profanity, no hate. Just the words, "I love my friends Abby and Faith. Lex was here 2/1/10 :)" scrawled on the classroom desk with a green marker.
Alexa Gonzalez, an outgoing 12-year-old who likes to dance and draw, expected a lecture or maybe detention for her doodles earlier this month. Instead, the principal of the Junior High School in Forest Hills, New York, called police, and the seventh-grader was taken across the street to the police precinct. Alexa's hands were cuffed behind her back, and tears gushed as she was escorted from school in front of teachers and -- the worst audience of all for a preadolescent girl -- her classmates.
"They put the handcuffs on me, and I couldn't believe it," Alexa recalled. "I didn't want them to see me being handcuffed, thinking I'm a bad person."
Alexa is no longer facing suspension, according a spokeswoman for the New York City Department of Education. Still, the case of the doodling preteen is raising concerns about the use of zero tolerance policies in schools. Read More: Source/CNN Doodle Arrest
Unbelievable...We go from NOT disciplining children when they need it, to this. What is WRONG with people. I'd be embarrassed for anyone to know I was the STUPID person who came up with this kind of rule. Geez....
