Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The owner of the Pizza Rita chain in Spokane is offering 100 large pizzas as a reward to help police track down the robber who held up a store Thursday night. Police say the man walked into the store on North Wall last night, pulled out a gun, and told employees who were taking pizza orders to hang up.
 He got away with cash.
Employees describe the suspect as a white man, about six feet tall, in his late teens to early 20s. He was dressed in all black including a ski mask.
Anyone with information regarding this robbery should call Crime Check at 456-2233.
I for one wished I knew who the robber was, because I'd turn him in as quick as I could blink.

Identity Theft

February 26, 2010 (WLS) -- The family of a man murdered in an identity-theft plot has won a $6 million jury award against the estate of the Lake Barrington businessman suspected in his slaying and the suspect's wife
In Febraury 2008, police say 40-year-old Ari Squire killed 20-year-old Justin Newman to fake his own death and collect on a $5 million life insurance policy. A month later, police caught up with Squire at a motel room in Missouri. When officers knocked on the door, he committed suicide.
Squire's wife, Denise, has not been charged in Newman's death.
But the civil jury, in reaching its award, found that she was aware of her husband's plot.

Ellen: Making it or Not?

(CNN) -- Even before Ellen DeGeneres took her seat on "American Idol," the roar began.
Cries of "What does she know about music" and "Bring back Paula Abdul" lit up blogs and message boards. Then the next shoe dropped -- anchor judge Simon Cowell announced that the ninth season would be his last.
Fans had barely adjusted to the addition of a fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi, the season before. Once it was announced that DeGeneres was coming onboard, the naysayers were even more perturbed.
The whole situation brought DeGeneres into a whirlwind of drama, exacerbated by rumors that she and Cowell don't get along (both deny that's the case) and initial performances by contestants that have been less than stellar.
Now, after fans have had a week to check out DeGeneres' live judging of the talent competition, the talk show host and comic appears to be almost as polarizing as last season's runner-up, Adam Lambert.  Read More:  Source/CNN  Ellen
Well, I'm not a big fan of American Idol...I usually only watch the auditions because they make for some hilarious and tragic TV, but I watched to see how Ellen judged, and the criteria she used, and I think, personally that she adds the right touch to the panel of big-headed 'look at me's". I think she'll make it.

Cows in the House

Source KARK 4 NEWS
(Pike County, AR) - A Pike County homeowner can say she's seen it all after arriving home to see unlikely visitors inside her house.
A cow was sticking its head out the front door when Latisha Francis got home on Monday, but that was only the beginning.
Another cow was found in the living room and a third in the master bedroom.
The hooved heavyweights had trouble walking on the home's wood floors. When they slipped and fell, they took one piece of furniture after another down with them.   The cows adventure began when they got out of their enclosure and were then chased by dogs. In trying to make their escape from the dogs, the cows forced their way inside the house.
It wasn't long before they found a 50-pound bag of dog food and dug in. On their way out they left enough manure to fill a wheelbarrow.

Pit Bull Attack

ATLANTA -- A Fulton County police officer was forced to shoot and kill a pit bull to save a man they suspected of breaking into cars.
The incident happened about 1 a.m. on Sturbridge Way.
Officer Michael Guin caught the man after chasing him on foot and handcuffed him, according to Fulton police Sgt. Scott McBride.
As the officer arrested Brown, someone set loose a pit bull from a home nearby, McBride said.
At the same time a man came out of the same house and fired a shot in the air, McBride said. That man, who police identified as Christopher Rich, then pointed the gun at Guin even though he identified himself, McBride said.
The dog then attacked the handcuffed man, who police identified as Meco Brown and bit him in the neck. Guin shot and killed the dog to save the Brown’s life, McBride said. Brown was taken to Grady Hospital Read More and Watch Video:   Source/CBS Atlanta  Pit Bull
Well this was a jumble of events. So sad for all those except the perpetrator. I'm not a fan of pit bulls, but I can understand a man having one as guard dog. When that guard dog does what he's supposed to, and is trained to, and then is killed while performing that duty, it's a shame. I think the police officer acted too soon. He should have let the owner control the dog, AFTER the thief got a little. That would have saved the life of the dog, saved the policeman having to kill, and given the thief a bit of needed justice.

50 Tons of Dead Fish Wash Up In Rio Lagoon

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Thousands of dead fish are washing up on the shores of a popular beachside lagoon in Rio.
News Web site G1 says workers have cleared nearly 78 tons of fish as of Sunday. There is no immediate estimate of how many died, but several species are involved.   Rio's environmental secretary speculates that increased levels of a harmful algae may be the immediate cause of the sudden die-off Friday. She tells G1 that authorities are still investigating.
The stench of rotting fish has dampened joggers and cyclists' normal enthusiasm for weekend jaunts along the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon's paths.
The 2-square-mile (4.5-square-kilometer) body of water is just north of Rio's Ipanema Beach. A canal connects it to the Atlantic.
I'll bet that smells......

Cat Ownership Keeps The Doctor Away

By Jennifer Viegas, Studio One Networks
Medical researchers have discovered a miracle cure that can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve mental well-being -- no pills required. The cure is your cat, according to a recent conference held by the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction.
"Research in this field is providing new evidence on the positive impact pets have in our lives," explains Rebecca Johnson, Ph.D., an associate professor at the MU Sinclair School of Nursing who helped organize the event.  Read More: Source KHQ Pets  Cats
I can attest to the fact that owning cats has made my life a better one. They have comforted me when I was blue, and provided such joy while bonding with them.  Many of my pet owning friends would also agree.

On the Lighter Side

Ode to Forgetfulness

Perspective

What a weekend huh? A very large earthquake in Chile, so close in time to the one that happened in Haiti. I feel that there may be more coming that we've been speculating on for years. I can't say just how I come to that conclusion, but it's just a feeling that I have.

I had a birthday yesterday, (still in the 50's), and decided that I would join the ranks of the non-smoking. There are two reasons that I have decided to quit. One was that it was just time. I've been smoking since I was 18, and though it hasn't affected my health yet, I decided I have had enough, in spite of the fact that I really enjoyed smoking. Yeah I know, some call it a nasty disgusting habit, but hey, so what. The other reason, was the cost. I am still angry that the government, especially the State of Washington, put such high taxes on the tobacco industry in order to kow tow to the crybaby nonsmokers.  The cost has become prohibitive. I've heard all the arguments, second hand smoke, cancer, etc.etc.etc., and I agree that nonsmokers have the right not to have to breath some one elses smoke, but hey...you can always ...MOVE!!!  We have just as much right to smoke, as you have not to. Anyway don't get me started. I just can't justify spending almost $10 a day to enjoy something that MIGHT cause me health problems later on down the road. So...we'll see how long this lasts...Like the old joke, "quitting it easy, I've done it lots of times", well... this time I'm committed.

Other than that, my new baby kitty has turned out to be such a joy. He follows me around, comes to his name, I named him Willy (Wee Willy). He talks a lot and I really think I can teach him to accompany me on walks with a leash. I'll let you know how that goes.

I hope that this week will go well for everyone on the planet. Thanks for visiting.
