Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).

CDC Most With Herpes Still Don't Know It.

bSaundra Young, CNN Medical Senior Producer
CNN) -- As much as 16 percent of the U.S. population between the ages of 14 and 49 has genital herpes, according to a government study released Tuesday.   And sexually transmitted diseases of all varieties infect 19 million more Americans every year -- a rate that costs the health care system some $16 billion annually, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) found. The study was released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of the the National STD Prevention Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
...Fenton said the high rates of herpes among African-Americans is most likely contributing to the high rate of HIV in that community. In fact, statistics show that people with herpes are two to three times more likely to get HIV if exposed.
The CDC estimates that more than 80 percent of the people who have the herpes simplex 2 virus don't know they are infected. Many people never have symptoms or outbreaks, or those symptoms are mild and mistaken for something else. But transmission can occur without symptoms or visible sores. Worst Karoake Performances

In the Philippines, a poor karaoke performance can get you killed. The leading source of karaoke-related deaths in the reportedly violent Philippine culture is off-key or arrogant renditions of a famous Frank Sinatra tune. Ironically, that song is "My Way."
Surprised and a bit disturbed by this, Asylum set out to find accounts of karaoke-related violence here in the United States. It turns out that for the most part, Americans are a civil bunch of karaoke-rs. But don't be fooled -- this doesn't mean that karaoke-goers here in the U.S. are any good. You all know who you are.
So we asked karaoke bar keepers across the U.S. a different question: What are the most poorly performed karaoke songs?
Respondents met the question with a bit of laughter and some disdain for all of you out there who botch lyrics, screech into microphones and make everyone wish you would remove yourself from the stage.  Keep reading to find out how karaoke bars weighed in on the worst offendersKaraoke
I have to agree...there's nothing like a BAD singer who thinks he/she is a GOOD singer...I think it comes from too many parents praising children for poor performances.  In my world if I suck at something I should be told I suck...I either accept it and improve, or don't.  Just don't lie to me...

Richest Man in the World

MEXICO CITY — Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim is the world's richest person, jumping past Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the first person from a developing nation to top the list, according to Forbes magazine.
...Slim has donated to several causes, but not on nearly the same level. In January, he announced a $65 million donation for genetic research on cancer, type 2 diabetes and kidney disease in Mexican and Latin American populations.  Read the whole article: Source/Huffington Post Richest Man
What is the worlds richest man doing for one of the worlds poorest countries. This is obscene. He's only richer than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet because of their generous donations to better mankind. Geez...you can't take it with you pal..

Salt Ban For Restaurants? Lawmaker Introduces Bill to Kill Salt

One Brooklyn lawmaker wants to take some flavor out of your food.
Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn) has proposed a bill that "prohibits the use of salt by restaurants in the preparation of food by restaurants."   Bill A10129 calls for fining a-salters $1000 for flouting the law.
New York has already successfully banned trans fats from restaurants and local politicians are weighing a tax on soda, so shaking the salt out of kitchens may not be such a far-fetched idea.  Read More: Source/Huffington Post  Salt Ban
I sure hope they don't do this...Another example of some stupid person making stupid laws.  Just what are they going to outlaw next?

Immune to Cancer?

In this Oct. 17, 2008 file photo, Tex, a Tasmanian Devil, sits in his enclosure at Sydney's Taronga Zoo. Australian scientists say Wednesday, March 10, 2010, they have found a colony of Tasmanian devils that are genetically different from their peers and so far resistant to the face cancer that has decimated the population.

I'm not quite sure why I thought this might be important, except that maybe, if scientists could determine why these particular animals are resistant to cancer, there might be a cure?

Helping Your Child Cope When A Pet Dies

by Diane Griffith/MyOptumHealth
For 7-year-old Sarah, Max wasn't just a dog. He was her best friend. When she had a bad day at school, he was waiting for her at the door, his tail wagging. When she felt left out by her friends, Max would drop his ball at her feet for a game of fetch. And if she took a tumble, he ran to her side
When Max got sick and had to be put to sleep, Sarah felt lost and confused. But with the love and support of her family, she was able to work her way through her grief.
Children respond to death and grieve differently than adults. Their reactions vary with age.  Read More: Source/KHQ Pets  Pet Deaths

Clark Howard

Clark talks about how to make a shaving razor last 6 months.

Interesting Note

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before the invention of commercial fertilizers, so large shipments of manure were quite common.
It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a byproduct is methane gas of course. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOM!
Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.
After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the instruction 'Stow high in transit ' on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.
Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ‘, (Stow High In Transit) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.
You probably did not know the true history of this word.
 Neither did I.
I had always thought it was a golf term.
