Sparta the Mean Kitty

The videos above are from YouTube, and feature Sparta. Click on them to watch these clever videos his owner has posted on YouTube. He is an Egyptian Mau, though he looks like a Bengal. (Bengals are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic shorthair). In one video, you'll notice how Sparta fetches. (it's because they are VERY smart). I Hope you enjoy these short clips.

(PS. Sometimes weird videos will appear. Refresh the browser until the kitties show up).

Today is Tuesday, and we are presently having the Spokane Interstate Fair.  Every year, my sister Noralee, provides us with Concert tickets for one of the shows being presented.  It's a great time to get together with family and friends, and wander the fairgrounds viewing exibits and animals.  The weather for today looks like it's going to be very pleasant and a little warm.

Tonight: Mainly clear and quiet. West winds at 5mph. 57°

Tomorrow:  BEAUTIFUL sunny day!  With temps that will be about 10° above average. 86°/60°

High Pressure will continue to strengthen through the week, bringing dry and unseasonably warm temperatures to the Pacific NW.

Enjoy,

Leslie

What's your opinion?
I saw this yesterday, and at first gave the guy kudos for coming forth and proclaiming his guilt.  I didn't at first give any thought as to his motive for doing this.  However, later, many have ascribed some sort of ulterior motive to this confession.  After watching his confession, do you think he's confession is some sort of ruse promulgated in order to receive a lighter sentence?

By Doug Gross, CNN

(CNN) -- Matthew Cordle hasn't yet been found liable of killing a man while drinking and driving, but there's not much question about whether he's guilty.
It's not because of the the homicide charges that were filed against him on Monday. But it's because Cordle went on YouTube last week and told the world he'd done just that.
Cordle's confession, a highly produced, three-and-a-half minute video that has been viewed by more than 1.2 million people, is the sort of pronouncement that would have been impossible before the world had social media platforms at its fingertips. And it's raising questions that go far beyond the 22-year-old Ohio man's guilt or innocence.
Chief among them: Was Cordle, who says he plans to plead guilty and accept whatever punishment is handed down, just trying to get a lighter sentence by using the Web to get out in front of a criminal case in which he hadn't even yet been charged?

Inspiring...
When I saw this story, I was overwhelmed.  It's hard to explain.  I have such an affinity for animals, of all kinds, and feel so very good when I see anyone, especially a child who also possesses empathy and compassion for any of God's little creatures.  The bond these two share is so very special.  I wish all children could have such an experience.

Vadim Veligurov, 12, Forms Adorable Relationship With Rescued Sparrow

In June, the 12-year-old found the lost female baby bird near his grandmother's house in Minusinsk, where he was spending the summer, according to Reuters. The sparrow never tried to fly away. Instead, she stayed by her new friend's side.

Abi likes to prop herself on Veligurov's shoulder. She'll even eat out of his hand and peck him on the lips, the Metro reported.

And since the two are now inseparable, Veligurov plans to take Abi back to his hometown after summer break.

We think this is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

So Sad....
It is no secret from those who know me personally, just what my views on guns, and gun safety are.  I respect every American's right to own their firearms, however I do strongly believe that if you are going to own guns, you should be responsible and held accountable for the safety of that weapon...

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. -- Yellowstone National Park officials are investigating after an Idaho woman reported her 3-year-old daughter shot herself with a handgun in a campground.

Park rangers responded Saturday morning to Grant Village Campground, but resuscitation efforts failed, resulting in what officials said was the first shooting death in the park since 1978.

Park spokesman Al Nash said Sunday that part of the campground remained cordoned off while park rangers and special park agents conduct the investigation. He said he didn't know where the girl's body was taken.

"We don't have all of the information, and we haven't drawn any conclusions," Nash said.

He said he didn't know how many family members were camping or where they are from in Idaho. Names haven't been released.

Pet Advice...

I've traveled from the Pacific Northwest to Texas and back, TWICE, with 3 cats in a car. Before starting, I asked my veterinarian for some advice about traveling so far with skittish cats.  He suggested, and prescribed a tranquilizer, in pill form, for each of my cats.  The trip lasted 2 1/2 days, and right before putting them in the car, I gave each of them their pill. They were pretty zonked for the duration of the trip, and travel with them was VERY easy.  I put a litter box on the floor of the back seat, and stopped to allow them to eat.  They slept almost the entire trip. This is something I would recommend if you have to travel any great distance.  I get so disgusted when I hear about people who would rather give up their pets, or abandon them when they move because they are afraid of traveling with their pets.

That's a lot of traveling Fluffy's and Fidos!

Of course cats can be -- to put it lightly -- notoriously picky. It's important if you'll be traveling with yours to ensure that he's healthy, safe and happy when coming along on any trips. We spoke with Dr. Rebecca Jackson, a staff veterinarian at Petplan, for some advice on how to have a safe trip with cats in tow. She suggested following these four steps:

Amazing...

I remember in 1969, when the 747 was rolled out as the largest airliner in the world...

World's largest airliner: Is bigger better?
By Thom Patterson, CNN

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- Superjumbo, the world's largest passenger plane, has finally conquered the world's busiest airport.
Korean Air kicked off its double-decker Airbus A380 service this week from Seoul to Atlanta, which celebrated Friday with a spectacular ceremony.
Shortly after touching down, Flight 035 slowly taxied to its specially modified gate under a towering arch of water cannons. Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport, which handled some 95 million passengers last year, is now the seventh U.S. airfield able to handle this ginormous aircraft.
But nearly six years after the Superjumbo entered service, it's unclear whether bigger is necessarily better.
